Should there be any significant road construction in the Appleton area,
especially near the Paper Valley Hotel, details will appear below:

There are TWO significant projects that may affect your travel.

(1) The bridge on East College Avenue, that crosses the Fox River near
Lawrence University and east of downtown, will be CLOSED starting
in July, 2008 through November, 2009. This a major east-west route
for those using COLLEGE AVENUE to get to-from the east side of
the city, or the Fox Valley area. The Paper Valley Hotel is located
on College Ave. If you exit Hwy 41 on the WEST side of Appleton,
this bridge replacement project will NOT affect your travel.

Detour routes are marked, but because of the high volume of traffic
that typically uses that bridge daily, those detours are VERY LENGTHY.
For those familiar with the area, the quickest alternate route to use
may be the Lawe Street bridge, going past Alexander Gym on the
Lawrence University campus, along the way.

(2) Wisconsin Avenue, or State Highway 96, is currently undergoing
considerable construction in several areas… particularly in the
area near the Fox River Mall, just east and west of Highway 41,
and, in different parts of the road all throughout the city. This work
is expected to be completed in November, 2008.
