  3. The call for retiring AD’s resulted in one name: Frank Kleczewski of Medford. (Any retiring AD’s not at the meeting should call Bill Vickroy in Rapids.)
  4. WADA Website – An important "favorite" for all AD’s. ( wadawi.org) Important information and golf outing registration is available plus links to other important sites. In the future there will be a grid of WIAA committee meetings and issues to be voted upon.
  5. We should strive to have all AD’s in the state become members of WADA and the NIAAA. Wisconsin is currently 5th in membership in NIAAA –Get Involved!
  6. All AD’s are encouraged to submit articles for the WADA Newsletter (Insights). Please send your articles to Bill Vickroy at Rapids Lincoln and they will be forwarded to our newsletter editor.
  7. Awards – The Athletic Director of the Year for District II voting process resulted in Jack Overgaard, DC Everest, being elected unanimously. The Distinguished Service Award election resulted in Wausau Sport and Spine Clinic being unanimously elected as the recipient. Both awards will be given at the WADA Workshop in Appleton in November.
  8. Golf Outing – Registration information is available on the WADA website and all AD’s are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. AD’s only until May 1. There is only one golf outing….June 24….The Ridges…Rapids…BE THERE.
  9. Fall Elections – If anyone is interested in running for Vice President of WADA they must get written letters of permission from their principal and superintendent and have these forwarded to Bill Vickroy no later than October 1. He/she must also submit a letter of interest. Other elections at the workshop will be District 2, 4, 6’s gender rep’s and representatives.
  10. Leadership Training Courses – offerings are at the fall workshop, the NIAAA convention, the new AD workshop and possibly other sites. Involvement leads toward the CAA certification and many other benefits.
  11. 2002 WADA Workshop – November 10-12 at the Paper Valley in Appleton. Anyone who is interested in presenting, presiding, etc. may call their District Rep or any WADA Board member. DISTRICT II DOOR PRIZE HAS BEEN A "JUNKET" BY WOJO’S OF WITTENBERG. ANY NEW IDEAS? Any smaller giveaways are welcomed. Contact Jim Campbell of Shell Lake if you have some.
  12. WADA Mentoring Program – Mike Younggren’s pioneering efforts will be carried on by Bill Vickroy. AD’s who are interested in mentoring should call Bill and new AD’s will be paired-up after they are identified at the beginning of the 2002-2003 school year. (Note: It is important for school districts to make sure their new AD’s attend the new AD’s workshop at WIAA headquarters…the projected date is August 7, 2002.)
  13. Discussion centered on open gyms, restrictions on them, caps on numbers of them, etc. Out-of-season contact was noted as not being a summer only issue…note open gym. The control of contact is at issue and the fact that there are no penalties highlighted with the amendment change. Is restrictive better or should an open concept be tried? Or keep things as they are? New sports discussions failed to generate much - bowling and ice hockey for girls in the winter were mentioned. Schools’ crowd control people should be admitted free since they seem to be doing the brunt of the control business at WIAA State Tournaments.
  14. National items – Coaches to Kids program(sportsmanship) is highlighted on the NFHS website. Also, the NFHS Student Leadership Conference is open to all and will be held in Indianapolis on July 12-14, 200s.
  15. WIAA’s second Sportsmanship Summit will be held on September 17,2002 in Oshkosh. It will be open to the first 100 schools faxing back registration materials.
  16. New business: Vote for the Board of Control District II candidate of your choice. Ballots due by April 16, 2002 to the WIAA. Keep all eyes posted for a scam on programs for sports. A company from Texas sends out bills to local businesses and says they are doing programs. (High School Sports Promotions, formerly known as American Youth Corporation.)
