2.      San Antonio National Conference – Individuals who are going need to sign up on a list after the meeting if they are interested in being elected as a delegate to the NIAAA proceedings.  In addition, on Tuesday after the WADA Annual Meeting there will be a short meeting of all individuals going to San Antonio to discuss WIAA breakfast, hospitality room costs, etc.

3.      District Door Prize – We have worked with Wojo’s of Witt. in past years for a gambling package and this year we have golf, dinner and motel gifts in Rapids.  Discussion was held and a decision made to set up a rotation of District II Conferences to be responsible for the annual District II gift.  Mike Younggren and Bill Vickroy will create a rotation/schedule and forward  it to District II membership.

4.      General Discussion on possible WIAA Forum topics:

Rogue calendar companies taking business from normal and legitimate school sports calendars.  Tournament programs contacting local businesses for reg. and sect. advertisements and then schools don’t make it…hurts annual calendar and program efforts.

Substituting officials without notifying schools &/or commissioners.

Recruitment of officials – class offerings back into 2/4 yr. Schools with WIAA and WADA support and requests.

Role of commissioners with officials – how far ahead are contracts being cut..18 months, 2/3 years?

Officials pay variances across the district, state and mileage.

Sportsmanship – student perception (is the fun being taken out of attending events with rules/regulations that are too restrictive?) Some students feel they are not in attendance for support of athletes but coming to vocalize, display neg. or positive feelings of the overall contest.

Student issues can be handled by site coordinators and common sense on cheers.  Key to fostering good sportsmanship is actually in the education  and control of adult fans, parents, etc.

Transfers/Foreign Exchange students – Concern that some WIAA interpretations on transfers are not always consistent…esp. when kids leave state for non-school sports and then return, residence situations, etc.

Best way to avoid transfer/foreign exchange problems is to make sure all are deemed ineligible until the proper WIAA forms have been completed…downloadable from the WIAA website.

Seeding – higher schools should always host/across the board.

5.      Realignment – North. Lutheran would like to be in a conference and     upcoming discussions with the WIAA will center on Wis. Valley, Lumberjack, Heart 0’North, etc. variations due to football problems and multiple conference membership scenarios.

6.      Elections – Bill Vickroy, WR Lincoln, nominated for DII Rep…nominations closed(DCE/Merrill)….unanimous by voice vote.  Linda Fenske, Spencer, nominated for DII Gender Rep…nominations closed(Witt.Birn./DCE)….unanimous by voice vote.  Both individuals will be serving their second and final 2 year terms(elections will be held again at the WADA Workshop/Fall Caucus in November of 2004) Contact information:  Bill Vickroy, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, 715 422-7179 Work phone number and  VickroyBG@wrps.org  e-mail ……  Linda Fenske at Spencer, 715 659-2409, ext. 118 Work phone number and lfenske@spencer.k12.wi.us e-mail.

The meeting was formally adjourned at 5:31 p.m.
