3.  Names for November workshop for yearly awards  

            Any AD’s who qualify for WADA 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 year awards should

report such to Mike Devine.

 

4.  Names for NIAAA yearly awards  

            Likewise, AD’s who qualify for WIAA 15, 20, 25, 30 year awards should also

report such to Mike Devine.

7. Mike Devine (Baraboo) was nominated by Miles Oakey (Portage) for

District III AD of the Year Award, seconded by Ron Johnson (Onalaska). 

Unanimous vote followed.  Congratulations Mike!!

                       

 

8.  Distinguished service candidates from District III

            Mike Sullivan

Nominated by Dave Turner – EC North, Mark Froehle – EC Memorial

                                    and Terry Allen – EC Regis

            Marilyn Wershoefen

Nominated by Linzi Gronning (Holmen)

                       

            Mike Sullivan (Eau Claire radio) was chosen as

District III Distinguished Service Award Winner

 

9.  WADA V Pres

Mike Devine encouraged people to run for WADA VP, which is a four-year

commitment.       VP, Pres Elect, Pres, Past Pres

Decision must be made by Oct  -  Let Mike Devine know

 

            Joe Beran (La Crosse Central) has been selected to replace Jack Overgaard as

WADA Secretary/Treasurer.  Congratulations and thank you to Joe Beran!

 

10.  The Golf Outing is scheduled for Monday, June 24, 2002 at Wisconsin Rapids

(Ridges).  Bill Vickroy is the coordinator.  Registration forms are on the web site

– WADAWI.org.

 

11.  The 2002 WADA Fall Workshop is November 10,11 & 12 at the Paper Valley Inn in

Appleton.  If you would like to volunteer for mini-sessions, please let Mike

Devine (Baraboo) know.

                                    Graeme Williams – Loyal

 

            Some Suggestions for mini-sessions

            Use fees – pro and con

 

Mike Froehle, (EC Memorial) of the Big Rivers Conference will secure District

III door prizes for the wind-up luncheon.

           

12.  LTC 501 will be offered at new AD workshop in August.

Many other Leadership Training  Classes (LTC) will be offered at the

WADA workshop in November.

All classes       $75

                                   

Mike Youngren (Wausau East)  had resigned as the coordinator of the Mentoring

Program.   Bill Vickory (WI Rapids) will be the new Mentoring Coordinator.

 

 

 

13.  Questions/Concerns

A.   Season start dates

                        WIAA has made no new decisions concerning the late school start dates.

                        The State legislature may reconsider the Sept 1 start date for schools.

                         

B.   Summer coaches contact will be voted on at the Annual Meeting on April 17

 

            C.   Pole vault issues

                        1.  Must have helmet this year (no approved standard on helmet)

                        2.  Next year must widen and elongate pole vault pits

                                    from 16’ to 20’ – and must have a target bullseye on pit

                        3.  It was reported that there have been three deaths  this year in pole vault

nationwide

 

14.  The WIAA Annual Meeting will be April 17, 2002 at the Holiday Inn in Stevens Pt.

 

15.  Discussion followed concerning whether or not the workshop should move from Fall

to Spring.  Ideas were exchanged in support of both the Fall and Spring.  A vote

followed with 22 attendees favoring Fall and 11 attendees favoring Spring.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

16.  Tom Goller (GET) noting the increase from 6 to 7 divisions in football asked if there 

is any talk about increasing the number of basketball divisions.

            Discussion followed about the possibility of having super sectionals in basketball.

 

17.  Principals have encouraged a study of pay and turnover rate among principals.

            Linzi Gronning inquired if the WADA should conduct a similar survey

                        Survey state AD’s            job descriptions and pay

 

            Help to retain AD’s and increase pay and benefits for AD’s

 

Linzi Gronning will provide to Mike Devine a copy of principal survey.
