WADA District 3 - Spring Caucus Minutes

April 4, 2001 -Holiday Inn - Tomah, WI

 

  1. Meeting was called to order by Mike Devine (Baraboo)

  2. In Attendance:

Mike Devine informed those present that they must be WADA members to vote for Athletic Director of the Year  and Distinguished Service Award.

B) Dave Turner - Eau Claire North  and Mark Froehle- Eau Claire Memorial nominated    Mike Sullivan

C)  Joe Beran, Mark Gruen, and Ted Knutson from the three LaCrosse High Schools nominated Frank and Cindy Hood

D) Dave (Pee Wee) Clift – chosen District III Distinguished Service Award Winner

Mike Devine asked those present to consider running for WADA Vice-President

                    4-Year Term

                    Year 1. Serve as Vice President

                    Year 2.  President Elect

                    Year 3.  President

                    Year 4.  Past President

                    Needs permission from their superintendent

                    Must announce candidacy by October 1st  

  1. Golf Outing - only one golf outing this year.  Monday, June 25th at Ridges in Wisconsin Rapids.           Registration Forms are available from Bill Vickroy at Lincoln High School, Wisconsin Rapids

  2. WADA Workshop will be held in Appleton at the Paper Valley Hotel again.  Dates are November 4-6, 2001.  Paper Valley will guarantee 350 rooms (300 Last Year)

  3. Presenters and Presiders needed for WADA Workshop . Bryan Yager (Reedsburg) will present with Toby Ackerman

  4. Others interested in Presenting should contact Mike Devine. 

  5. Volunteers as Presiders - Barb Buswell-West Salem , Bryan Yager-Reedsburg, Lindzi Gronning- Holmen, Brad Steinmetz-La Farge

  6. Suggestions for mini session topics were solicited (last year  topics included tournament management and officials recruitment)

         Suggested Topics for mini sessions this year  - Sportsmanship

      Door Prizes Needed for WADA Workshop

         District III Door Prizes for wind-up Luncheon  MVC Door Prizes

  1. Leadership Training - Saturday, June 9, 2001 LTC #590  Certify to Teach  LTC.   Cost  $64 at Paper Valley, Appleton-4 Hour class:  Contact Dan Dalton or Mike Devine; LTC Courses Offered Sun.-Mon. nights at Workshop;   (Will not be offered during "core" of workshop)

  2.   Mentoring Program For New AD's -    WADA hopes to make improvement in Mentoring Program Over 20%  turnover rate in State AD’s  last few years

  3. WIAA Annual Meeting - in Wisconsin Rapids, April 25th at Mead Inn, Wisconsin Rapids

  4. Those in attendance were asked to vote for three possible names for new WADA  Newsletter

  5. Boys and Girls Basketball coaches have recommended a $3.00 admission charge across the board - both student and adult. 

  6. Concern about cost to school to host Tournament Game (Heat, Lights, Custodians, etc.)

    Volleyball Request to increase game mat. from 15 to 16-Defeated by Sports Advisory

  7. NIAAA  Convention Orlando, FL  December 12-17, 2001.  A hand vote indicated about eight in attendance expect to attend NIAAA Convention next December.

  8. Old Business - Encourage to re-nominate Frank and Cindy Hood from La Crosse and Mike Sullivan from Eau Claire next year for DSA

  9.   New Business Baseball Survey for a combination spring/summer season got shot down. Any discussion to increase the number of Basketball divisions from four to six (like football)
